Why So Ale?

The more they drink the prettier you get? Lucky for you, they have enough booze on them for the opinion to last. Peels from 30 beer cans form the sexy, gleaming surface of mirror maker Aahana Mulla’s latest looking glass; and 8 whisky bottles were sacrificed during the creation of her favourite Mary Jane leaf mirror. Are these drunks worth letting into the house? Allow us to reflect for a moment.

Trashy!

A close inspection of these wall mirrors hand crafted under the label Radical, reveal ingenuity, a knack for picking interesting materials and the technique to follow even complicated ideas through to completion. Besides booze cans, Aahana works under the influence of pebbles, tiles, stones, broken glass and pretty much any other waste she can make wondrous. Her inspiration? One day she’s glass painting to Kurt Cobain, and another day she’s breaking glass with GnR. “The rituals that go into every piece – research, design, shopping, rummaging through trash can (metaphorically, of course) – end up inspiring the next project I take up,” says 24 year-old Aahana, who quit a job in HR to work with shiny happy things.

Besides the abovementioned inebriated ones, bpb found itself staring into the glassy eyes of jewel toned fish painted on a glass mirror and peering into star and sun-shaped ones built painstakingly with stones. So bright! We didn't however, love the round ones with common mosaic patterns.
