(Not) A Raw Deal
Rice is nice, but vinegar rice topped with Japanese tuna is better. And the fact that you can have it delivered to your doorstep makes it just about perfect. With takeout fliers, a free home delivery number, and a make-sushi-more-accessible business plan, Sushi Spice is bringing the Japanese delicacy from the classes to the masses.
When Rice is Not a Vice
Sushi Spice’s kitchen doles all things sushi-related, from from California and Maki rolls to Sashimi and Nigiri. Miso and Japanese Rice Soup are also on the menu, which in two weeks will feature noodles and rice dishes as well.
The spicy tuna rolls (Rs 300 for 9 pieces) we ordered were f resh and fearless; vegetarian California rolls (Rs 250 for 9 pieces), however, were blander, and we couldn’t taste any of the cream cheese that supposedly accompanied the cucumber and avocado.
The Good and the Ugly
Sure, this Japanese take-out won’t wound your wallet, but it could hurt your eyes. And heart. Seeing the raw delicacy served on a Thermocol platter, firecracker wasabi forced into a tame sachet, and soy sauce sitting in a medicine-like plastic bottle takes some getting used to.
The Business of Sushi
Armed with an MBA degree from London University, Tarique Rangoonwala who runs Sushi Spice, plans to open a “reasonably priced” sushi bar in Bandra as early as by the end of this year. And if the gazillion restaurant license Gods decide to be kind, sake will be served too.
Here’s to eating our rice and drinking it too!
To order: Call 9833650503 and download the menu on http://www.sushispice.com . Free home delivery in Bandra and Khar, minimum order of Rs 800 for delivery in the rest of the city.
