bpb Sneak Peek: Wtf!

Sneak Peek:
Wtf!

With its pretty chairs & sewing machine tables, Wtf!, Khar's newest bar was not as adolescent as we expected.

Wtf! That was our first reaction when we heard that a new drinking hole named after the same three letters was opening up in Khar. But a sneak peek during last night’s launch party, and we couldn’t help but go, “omg!”

Beyond Three letters

Truth be told, Wtf!, a project by the same guys who owned Seijo and the Soul Dish, pleasantly surprised us. We went expecting an adolescent-appropriate, Red Light type space, and were greeted instead by a pastel open-air section where sewing machines replace tables and a hand cart poses as the bar.

Inside, the music gets louder – hip hop and pop - but the interior doesn’t. Here, turquoise green sleeper wood chairs crafted in Jaipur are offset by dull yellow shutters. Out of place in this pretty setting is a wall dedicated to Arsenal, courtesy of owner Kishore DF, a fan of the football team who just couldn’t resist. The third section, a cherry red diner setting with clichéd movie and music posters on the wall, was our least favourite part.

Dive Right In

Replacing Simply Goa, Wtf! is pitched as a fuss-free dive bar where the drinks will be cheap and the food simple. True to this vision, the menu features usual suspects like Mojitos and long island iced teas, beer buckets and shooters in bottles.

Snacks doing the rounds last night included yum spicy crisp potatoes, sinfully fried kurkure, mini kathi rolls and slightly burnt chicken bruschetta. Judging by the taste of these, the other twenty six appetisers on the menu – mini burgers, pork ribs - should be decent (expected to start at Rs 120).  Wtf! doesn’t plan on serving any mains.

The Wall Project

Besides sporting television screens that will  telecast games, Wtf! is also planning other innovative touches, like projecting its Facebook group on one side of the bar so customers with internet phones can post feedback on the group wall and see it appear live. It opens to the public on Sunday, May 16. We’ll brb!

Getting there: Wtf! Hotel Dreamstorm, ground floor, 3rd Road, near Khar Railway Station, Khar (W), Rs 120 for a small Smirnoff.

went there y/day and i must say it leaves much to be desired for. no coronas to start off with, only heinekens and that too not chilled! and this is when the place is half empty. they dont accept credit cards only cash.
wouldnt recommend it. there are enough watering holes in the city. this one can definitely be given a miss.
