Balls To You: Learning How to Juggle
Tuesday, 16 August 2011 00:26

Smooth as Butter Fingers

You know how you're always dropping stuff? And forgetting about important errands you need to run? Enough of this clowning around!

Blue Bulb's juggling workshop not only promises to be a complete ball, but will also help you relocate your body rhythm, increase concentration, and improve coordination. Which means that not only will you remember to pick up the dry cleaning next week, but chances of you dropping another one of your mother's Waterford glasses are greatly diminished. Really, you should make her pay for this class.

What's the Catch?

Conducted by an instructor who works with Teatro per Caso, an Italian theater company and is also a therapist to special education kids, the workshop will be spread over two 2 hour classes on August 20 and 21, and will guide participants through the basics of juggling along with some balance exercises and games. By the end of it, they promise, you'll be juggling three handmade juggling balls simultaneously, all of which you can take home with you. Air and lovely!

Not your rhythm? Blue Bulb also conducts workshops on other unusual activities, including archery, fire twirling, para-motoring and golf, all in or around Mumbai. You can check out their website here.

PS: The juggling workshop has only a few seats left, so contact them ASAP and don't just sit on your hands!

Getting there: Workshop on August 20 and 21 from 11 am to 1 pm at Prabhadevi, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 9870966910 / 982142344 to make a reservation, Rs 1,500 per person.

Candy is Dandy But Andy is Better
Wednesday, 10 August 2011 22:38

Arty Pants

What's the big deal in painting soup cans and bananas, you ask, or screen printing a photo of the lovely Ms Monroe with yellow hair? Think you can do better? Well, here's your chance.

Check out the Art Loft's The Warhol Situation, an "Art Appreciation" workshop run by Himanshu S, J.J. School of Art graduate and founder of Bombay Underground. Consisting of four classes, each 2.5 hours long, the workshop will examine closely the life, works and influences of Andy Warhol and get participants to replicate his themes and techniques.

So, plenty of time for you to find out what the fuss is all about.

Say It Paint So

If you go, you might find yourself in the midst of a discussion about the cultural, anthropological, and sexual significance of a bright yellow, magnificently curved banana, or the use of primary colours. Or you could be wrist deep in blue and red paint, replicating scenes from your favorite comic book. Other planned activities include shooting individual documentaries about the objects and events in your every day life, and screen printing faces ala Marlyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, John Lennon and maybe that third grade teacher who you've had a crush on for ten years?

The only thing is, the Art Loft doesn't have a screen printer, so you'll be xeroxing photos and paint on them instead. But no matter: as Andy said, art is whatever you can get away with.

Amen to that.

Getting there: Classes held for four Sundays from 5 pm - 7:30 pm starting August 21, at Valentino Rest 1st Floor, Mehboob Studios, Bandra (W). Call 9930483966 or visit the Facebook page to register. Rs 3,000 per person.

The Cows Who Painted Kalki's Face
Tuesday, 02 August 2011 21:58

Star Grazing

Virginia Holmes met Natasha Nischol on what she can only describe as a “business blind date”. Their friends were right: They did have a lot in common, and loved make-up with equal madness. After more such meetings and some rumination, Fat Mu was formed, a company for all things make-up with an adorable eye-lash curled cow as its face.

Since then, Virginia and Natasha have made-up the brightest faces in film, television, theatre and fashion, more recently the cast of Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara (on the India schedule). In the past, their brush with fame (individually or together) has included the cast of Danny Boyle’s Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, Mira Nair’s Vanity Fair, Stephen Frear’s Dirty Pretty Things, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera and R Balakrishnan’s Paa. Bow-vine!

How You Can Milk The Situation

Now that we’ve established just how cool these cows really are, we’ve found a way for you to use them. Oh relax vegans, no one’s getting killed. Yes, that blood red is just lipstick! Geez!

Cheese Cube-ists
